Ira was homeschooled until college, allowing him extra time to practice piano, cello, and voice, as well as participate in many sports and volunteer work. He was part of the cello section in the Cascade Youth Symphony for several years, which gave him the opportunity to sit second chair in Michael W. Smith's orchestra during his tours of the Pacific Northwest in 2007 and 2009. While at Whitworth University, Ira traveled to Argentina and Uruguay with the Whitworth Choir to perform several concerts and tour many of the great cities, including Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Arias, and others. Ira believes that travel and understanding of other people's stories is an integral part of stagecraft and encourages all of his students to travel as much as possible.
